Zela Aviation Forms Strategic Partnership with Skyros Municipality to Enhance Air Connectivity
/Zela Aviation is pleased to announce a new strategic consultancy collaboration with the Municipality of Skyros, marking a significant step toward strengthening air connectivity to the island and promoting its unique tourism offering to international markets.
With over 19 years of experience in the aviation industry and offices in the UK, Cyprus, and Greece, Zela Aviation brings its global expertise to this initiative aimed at supporting the sustainable development of Skyros as a summer destination.
This agreement with the Municipality of Skyros represents the third municipal consultancy partnership for airport and tourism development undertaken by Zela Aviation in Greece—following successful collaborations with the Municipality of Sitia (Crete) in 2022 and the Municipality of Syros in 2024. These long-term initiatives reflect the company's commitment to unlocking regional potential and enhancing air access across key Greek islands.
Skyros, the largest island of the Sporades, is a unique gem in the Aegean Sea, known for its wild natural beauty, traditional architecture, and rich cultural heritage. Offering unspoiled beaches, forested landscapes, local culinary delights, vibrant folklore tradition, and authentic customs, Skyros captivates visitors seeking authenticity and tranquility.
As part of the partnership, Zela Aviation—through its private aviation brand Zela Jet—will also work to promote executive private aircraft and helicopter operations into Skyros for the 2025 and 2026 season. Established in 2020, Zela Jet continues to grow as a trusted provider of bespoke charter services across Greece and Europe, offering premium travel options for high-end and time-sensitive travelers.
Skyros Island National Airport (LGSY), established in 1984, serves as the primary gateway to the island and is located just north of Linaria Port. With a 3,002-meter runway, the airport can accommodate larger aircraft and currently connects the island to Athens and other domestic destinations.
Zela Aviation will work closely with the Municipality of Skyros and Mayor Kyriakos Antonopoulos to attract interest from international tour operators and major airlines operating seasonal and charter routes across Europe. Zela Aviation will also engage with low-cost carriers to establish seasonal or scheduled services to Skyros, increasing accessibility and stimulating year-round tourism growth.
Andreas Christodoulides, Chairman of Zela Aviation, commented: "We are excited to begin our collaboration with the Municipality of Skyros. The island offers an unparalleled combination of natural beauty and cultural richness, and we believe it has tremendous untapped potential. Our goal is to support Skyros in becoming more connected to key European markets and help establish it as a rising destination in the Aegean."
The Mayor of Skyros Mr. Kyriakos Antonopoulos stated: "The collaboration with Zela Aviation is the first consultancy partnership of the Municipality of Skyros aimed at developing air tourism on the island. It marks a new era for the island, and I am pleased to be part of this effort. We have a large airport that provides aviation fuel and is soon to be modernized through an international tender. We will pursue the regional development of Skyros with quality options that reflect the island's unique character and unparalleled beauty."
Since its establishment in 2006, Zela Aviation has played an active role in aircraft wet and dry leasing, chartering, and aircraft sales. With a global client base spanning Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, Zela Aviation's success is driven by its experienced team, operational excellence, and customer-centric service.
