NBAA Welcomes Senate Passage of Key Measures to Bolster US Aviation Leadership
/The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) has welcomed the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, & Transportation’s approval of three bipartisan aviation measures that would enhance innovation, improve medication transparency for pilots and air traffic controllers and accelerate the safe deployment of advanced air mobility (AAM) aircraft in the National Airspace System (NAS).

The Aviation Medication Transparency Act of 2025 (S.3258) calls upon the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to publish in one central location, and update annually, a list of medications that pilots and air traffic controllers can safely take while maintaining their medical certification, removing the guesswork and fear associated with taking routine prescriptions and over-the-counter medications.
The Aviation Innovation and Global Competitiveness Act (S.3885) aims to modernize and streamline the FAA’s type certification process for AAM vehicles to improve transparency, predictability and accountability of the certification process for emerging aviation technologies like electric-powered vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) air taxis in the NAS.
The Supersonic Aviation Modernization Act (S.1759) directs the FAA to lift the 1973 ban on civil supersonic flight over U.S. land, permitting speeds exceeding Mach 1 if no sonic boom reaches the ground.
“Each of these measures addresses a critical aspect of aviation’s future, from fostering technological innovation and maintaining U.S. competitiveness to improving transparency in the medical certification process and the AAM type certification process,” said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “We appreciate the committee’s bipartisan leadership in advancing these bills and look forward to working with Congress to move them to the Senate floor and ultimately to the president’s desk.”
NBAA strongly supports all three measures as part of its ongoing advocacy to promote innovation, strengthen aviation safety, improve regulatory transparency and ensure the United States remains the global leader in aviation. The leadership of the NBAA Advanced Air Mobility Roundtable further assisted in shaping industry priorities reflected in the Aviation Innovation and Global Competitiveness Act.
Next, the bills move to the Senate floor for consideration by the entire chamber. NBAA will continue to urge congressional support as they move through the legislative process.
