Operator Spotlight: Omni Air Transport

Air Charter Guide recently spoke with the team at Omni Air Transport, a private charter and aircraft management service based in Tulsa, OK, with 40 years of operational excellence.

1) Charter traveler tips and know-how:
Use a trusted operator or broker for quotes and guidance. One of the big topics today is illegal charter. By using a licensed or registered broker or operator, you know that your travel options will be not only of good quality but safety as well. ARGUS/Wyvern/ISBAO are all great third-party safety auditing companies that many operators take part in to show that their operation is safe and exceeds the standards of the FAA and other regulators worldwide. If you are working with a broker, ask them to only request flights from operators who are part of these organizations, and to supply confirmation. The FAA passed 14 CFR 295 a couple of years ago which makes it a requirement for all brokers to inform their customers of who the operator is for their flight.

Don’t forget about transportation or catering! Often we get messages from the pilots in flight that the passengers forgot about a rental car or car service to pick them up at the airport. Also, flights will make you hungry. While nearly all operators will supply standard snacks and drinks, if you are flying during breakfast, lunch, or dinner, think about ordering or taking food for the flight.

It’s okay to ask! In this industry, we know that a big part of private travel is flexibility. If your plans change, don’t be afraid to ask your operator about your options. Many times, if given enough advanced notice, we can work with you on changing our schedule to meet your needs.

Sometimes, flexibility can save you some money. Many operators operate “empty legs,” which are sometimes offered at discounted rates. You might have to be flexible with your plans, but these are great opportunities to get flights booked at cheaper rates and sometimes are larger aircraft that you may not fly normally.

2) How would you describe your fleet or flagship aircraft?
Today, our charter fleet consists predominately of the wonderful Learjet aircraft with 40s, 45s, 75s and a 60 but we host a variety of managed aircraft as well. From Baron to Challenger and everything in between, our bread and butter are the 2-3 hour trips for charter and personal usage.

3) What does the future look like for your company?
Like many aviation companies the last few years, Omni was able to make it through COVID and take advantage of the unbelievable amount of demand the charter market has seen. This company has positioned itself to be the one of the premier chartering companies in central US.

4) How did you get into aviation?
Omni Air Transport was formed with just one charter jet over 40 years ago by a family of aviation enthusiasts.

5) What is your most popular itinerary/destination?
Our most popular destination is Florida or Las Vegas, depending on the time of year.

7) Fun stories or narratives to share:
We have a long history of flying humans and have had too many wonderful encounters to share in brief. Some of our favorite experiences have been the unexpected flights we have shared with family pets. On more than one occasion, we have had the pleasure of escorting pets on a dedicated solo flight to reunite them with their families either for vacation or because they were newly rescued animals.
